Wherever you go…

… There You Are. Military families will say this often, as Khara can attest since the Air Force moved hers around while growing up. It is seemingly a good reminder about staying present, wherever life takes you.

And so, where are we now? Well, cleary the writing gap found us, so it may be best for a quick recap. We spent a wonderful, rather windy, winter back in the Truth or Consequences/Elephant Butte area of New Mexico. Desert View RV Park was our home and employer. Jesse also tried his hand as a barista in the on-site coffee shop, Kokopelli’s Cafe. It was a peaceful time with plenty of hikes and soaks in the hot springs again. We met some new friends and spent some reflective time thinking about our journey with our tiny house and what our future may hold.

It turns out the long and winding road has brought us back to Texas for a time. Considerations for a 6 year old house with all its miles, some reconnection with family and a desire to be invested in a community again led us south and east to plant some roots for a spell. Casita Grande made a grand return in April to Johnson City, just west of Austin. We found some short term work and began rediscovering Central Texas, while we caught up with people we have loved and missed.

A big side trip in the spring took us for a family reunion vacation in Barcelona, Spain! Ten days in the Catalan capital were filled with adventure for Jesse, Khara, Ann Marie, Alan, Zach and his girlfriend, Jenna. We toured so many highlights of Gaudí’s art and architecture, tasted all the tapas, hiked the hills of Montserrat Abbey, visited Figueres to see Dali’s museum, dipped our toes in the Mediterranean, and enjoyed chats and strolls through the city. A fantastic voyage!

As we remembered what summer was back in Texas (whew hot whew!), we found time to revisit State Parks and keep cool with swims in the Pedernales, Guadalupe and Blanco Rivers. We eventually meandered down to the city of Boerne, just northwest of San Antonio, where we decided to plant the house. Nice and close to the big city, it still holds the charm, fresh air and beauty of a country town. Khara began working at The Nest Nature School at the Cibolo Center for Conservation. Jesse is on a pleasant mini sabattical, while in rehearsal for a holiday show at The Overtime Theater in San Antonio.

So there we went. And here we are. It feels strange to be away from “the road,” but we are being patient with transition and open to the new possibilities this chapter may hold. The beautiful season in Texas has now (finally!) begun and we enjoy the fresh cool change. We hope you too find presence wherever you go, so you may fully appreciate being there.

Hey Guys, Thanks for bringing me up to speed. .. In my closet and saw the cap you gave me when I left.
I no longer volunteer for the park system, but “volunteer” for my wife now helping at home and help her care for her Mom. Plus I sold my trailer.
Doing pretty good here, you guys take care!
