Same House, New View
At McKinney Falls State Park, we sat on our new porch and watched the campers and bikers go by and a zipper spider build a super cool web in a nearby tree. The sun rose over the tree line and then set through trees out back near our fire ring. We invited the curious campers inside to see this new tiny house. There were rainbows and night walk armadillos, active packs of lady deer, and walks to the falls to check the flow and spot turtles.
At Austonia RV Park, our porch opened onto wide open old farmland with big sunset views. There was always a hum from the nearby highway, but also high soaring vultures, caracaras, egrets, herons and flocks of migrating birds. We spotted coyotes crossing the field and even a wild pig. The neighbor’s muppet-like dogs ran and romped with so much joy out there. And Khara could spot Jesse far across the field building a fire at the community site.
At Enchanted Rock, our porch makes a super warm sunny private deck on cold winter mornings. Sally has even taken to joining us for sunning himself in the full fresh air out there. Our big windows on the north side look out at the Main Dome and Little Rock. We love to gaze out past the bare trees filled with tiny birds to observe hikers climbing in the distance. A careful step out the side door finds us at the campfire, getting reoriented to a night sky filled with more stars than we are accustomed to seeing.
